FastPatch Services London

London Underground has miles of track consisting of timber sleepers cast into a concrete slab. Over the years, the timber sleepers have dried out and shrunk. This has resulted in problems with track alignment and vibration, requiring DWG Infraco’s professional FastPatch services.

The solution to date has been to shim the underside of the timbers to maintain the vertical alignment, and use a cementitious material to maintain lateral stability.

The problem has been the time to undertake this work and poor working conditions of breakout out a 50mm strip of concrete, creating dust for the track staff. Normally productivity for this type of work is 6 sleepers per 4-hour shift.

Fastpatch Contractors London

A trial was undertaken to replace the cementitious material with Fastpatch LV. As Fastpatch LV is a low viscosity, it flows completely around the sleeper void and can be applied through the smallest cracks.

Productivity went up to 20 sleepers per shift, with no dust problems.

This method has now been adopted throughout the network.
