Railway Repairs Scotland

Greenhill Junction is a very busy and critical route in Scotland, between Edinburgh and Glasgow, and recently required railway repairs services from DWG Infraco.

The problem was highlighted when the cast manganese crossing failed due to the deterioration of the rail pads. The crossing was sitting directly on the concrete and started to erode the rail seat area causing a lack of toe load on the clips and allowing the crossing to move, which was a major contributing factor to its failure.

A temporary crossing has been installed, but due to the location of the bearer, replacement is a difficult option. A 20mph temporary speed restriction has been imposed until the problem is resolved.

Railway Maintenance Scotland

It was decided to use CTR-100 rail seat repair polyurethane and undertake a repair.

The work took two hours from arriving on-site to the tamping being completed. The speed restriction was removed, and normal service has been resumed.
